This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the first Nintendo Store outside of Japan, at Rockefeller Plaza, in New York City. This store is a 2-story shop featuring Nintendo games, consoles, and lots of plush toys and merchandise. This June, the store was crowded with visitors hoping to try the newly released Switch2 console.

Fenix E06R Mini EDC
The E06R looks like a Fenix E03R keychain flashlight had a growth spurt. It is a bit longer and thicker than the E03R with the addition of belt clip. It also has a higher lumen output, a magnetic tail, a UV lamp, and a laser pointer. Its feature set is closer to a full-sized EDC like the OLight Arkfeld than a keychain flashlight, while retaining the advantage of being lighter and more compact than a full-sized EDC.

Klarus E5 Plus

Klarus released an update to their E5 that I tested last year. The new E5+ looks nearly identical to its predecessor. Both are extremely flat, lightweight, minimalist, and fashion-forward EDC lights; a flashlight Apple would design. The Plus comes in 4 colors with matching metal belt clips: vibrant orange, OD green, grey, and black.
Physically, the E5 Plus looks nearly identical to the E5. Both have a magnetic tip that allows the E5 to tail-stand as a work light or be attached to the roof of a car as a warning signal. Klarus has staked out its position by offering the lightest, flattest EDC; about the length of a typical 3″ bladed folding knife. The E5 Plus weighs less than a pair of Apple AirPods with it charging case (1.4 oz). The new Plus is only 2 grams heavier than the original E5 and offers slightly more battery capacity and lumen output.
The EP5 has two light emitters. It’s primarily a clip-on lapel light for hands-free use; thin enough to slip inside MOLLE loops. Its main LED emitter is its larger round light on its side. Its auxiliary light forms the top end opposite its magnet. The E5 Plus adds a separate control button for the auxiliary light. The additional button improves the ergonomics of the light and addresses my main criticisms of the E5’s control and function scheme. Moreover, the two buttons make it easier to visually distinguish between a control button and the USB-C charging cover.
Pressing either control button for half a second activates the light. Tapping it changes the brightness mode. Additionally, tapping the primary button twice switches the primary white light to red-light mode, which now has a red-only flashing mode when tapped (instead of blue and red, which could affect night vision sensitivity). Both the main and the aux emitters now have mode memory, which the original E5 sadly lacked. The maximum output of the main light has been slightly increased to a maximum of 650 lumens.
Both the E5 and the E5 Plus are being sold simultaneously by Klarus. But given the similar price point (about $20) and much better ergonomics and feature set, I suspect the E5 will not be around much longer. The E5 Plus’s new features, like mode memory and two-button controls, make this a much more practical and functional EDC light.

SHOT 2025 Evike New Products
At SHOT Show 2025, I stopped by our friends at Evike.com who had a large booth near Holosun and Baretta. We got a chance to see their new licensed airsoft guns which are spot on copies of Kimber, Stacatto, Daniel Defense, and Noveske firearms. These are perfect training devices for dry-fire and non-lethal CQB training.

SHOT 2025 Fenix mini EDCs
I stopped by the Fenix booth at SHOT Show to see Fenix’s new offerings for 2025. I had tested the EO3R, which is a small flat EDC flashlight, about the size of my car’s alarm fob. The new E06R extends this design with a higher output and higher battery capacity. It’s also a bit longer by about 50% so it’s no longer a keychain sized EDC but not quite long enough to be a knife sized flashlight like the OLight Arkfeld. It’s about the size of the SW05R clip-on light that they sent me to test. I hope to get a sample of the EO6R to test out too.

SHOT 2025 XVision thermals
XVision specializes in digital optics. At SHOT Show 2025 I got a chance to see their Flex series of compact thermal scanners and sights. The Flex2 won Outdoor Life’s “Best Thermal Optic” award because of its high resolution and compact size. These thermals ran from $2500-$3000 MRP, but what caught my eye was their Shadow 100 night vision scanner because it has an MSRP of $149.

Rangecraft Velocity Pro Chrono

Back in January, I got a chance to see a pre-release sample of the Rangecraft Velocity Pro at Athlon’s booth. Athlon had planned to release the Velocity Pro in early April for a price of $350. Unfortuantely, nobody knew that the Trump Administration would be imposing over 100% tariffs on Chinese made products. Nor that this would cause widespread parts and shipping delays.
Some folks online were posting negative comments about Athlon, butthurt because the chrono didn’t ship in April and the price had gone up to $399; which is only about 10%. Retailers started getting their shipments at the very end of April and customers were getting their orders in the first week of May. I was pleasantly surprised to get a Velocity Pro from Athlon to test this early on. Often when a company has such high demand for a new product, they skip the gun-tubers until after they get their 2nd or 3rd shipments fromt he factory.
The Velocity Pro looks strikingly similar to the Garmin Xero. It is slightly larger in size with a slightly bigger display screen. The Velocity Pro has 2 additional control buttons on the top and has its menu arrow buttons on the side of the unit. Its physical dimensions are only slightly larger than the Xero and it also has a slightly bigger and brighter LCD screen. The Velocity Pro’s tripod base is heavier providing a more stable platform against high winds.
Comparing the two at the range, the Velocity Pro showed slightly faster readings on average to the Xero. The difference between the two chrono’s was less than 1% which is neglibable. While testing a pistol shooting in rapid fire, the Xero could not keep up with the Velocity Pro. The Xero would miss recording shots if there was less than a 1.5-2 second delay between shots. The Velocity Pro’s more reliable sensors, better menu layout and contols, and with less than a 1% difference in readings made the Rangcraft the better chrono.

SHOT 2025 Fenix Weaponlights
I stopped by the Fenix booth at SHOT Show to see Fenix’s new offerings for 2025. I tested the GL19R last year and found it to be a reliable and bright weaponlight. This year, they showed me the GL23R with its new mechanical control switches and the new v2 GL19R with the same switches.

SHOT 2025 Athlon Rangecraft Chrono

Athlon Optics is known for making a wide range of high-quality scopes on par with other Leupold, Vortex, and Burris at a more reasonable price. At SHOT Show 2025 their most surprising new product wasn’t a scope or optic.
Athlon is releasing the Rangecraft Velocity Pro ballistic chronograph. Looking strikingly similar to the Garmin Xero, the differences lie in its user interface which is much easier to use and snappy. Like their scopes, the biggest advantage that Athlon delivers is price. The expected street price is about half that of the Garmin Xero.
UPDATE: Due to the Trump Administration’s Tarriffs, prices for electronics made in China went up and there were delays in shipment. The original launch date was intended for late April but the first shipments were delayed.
