CANDY CORN
Candy corn was originally invented in the 1880s
by George Renninger of the Wunderle Candy Company in Philadelphia.
The candy was later sold to the Goelitz Candy Company (now named Jelly Belly) who first sold it as “Chicken Feed” candy. The candy is colored and shaped like dried corn used as livestock feed, which was more familiar to farming families in the 19th century.
It is made of sugar, corn syrup, wax and flavored with vanila. It is made from 3 different colored liquid batches, each poured as a layer into a candy mould to achieve the shape.
The candy recipe has remained unchanged for over 100 years and was originally enjoyed year-round.
35 million pounds (about 9 billion individual kernels) are produced every year. Most of that 35M is sold and distributed in one month: October.
Candy Corn you either love it or hate it.
And only black licorice is more hated.
Do you like Candy Corn? Who in your family and friends likes Candy Corn?
